Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

The Windows Version Installer is an installation utility that may be associated with Potentially Unwanted Programs such as VUUPC (a remote desktop access tool). Malware experts have not seen evidence worthy of placing the Windows Version Installer in the category of threat. However, this program may be launched automatically, and products related to the Windows Version Installer may represent security risks for your computer. Ordinarily, you should consider running anti-adware scans to remove a Windows Version Installer as soon as possible after you see its pop-up requests.
What to do When Software Tries to Install Itself
While its name and general EULA could lead some PC users to assume that the Windows Version Installer is a Microsoft update, the Windows Version Installer is an installer utility particularly seen in attempts to distribute VUUPC automatically. While incidents observed by malware experts stopped short of using exploits to install the payload, most pop-ups for Windows Version Installers included inadequate information. Typically, they're distributed in bundles with other applications, particularly free software.
The VUUPC program that may be installed by a Windows Version Installer isn't threatening software, but, like the Windows Version Installer, bears the classification of a PUP. Other PUPs also may be installed simultaneously, including the Babylon Toolbar, Adlyrics and other browser add-ons with advertising features. While VUUPC and related products may offer some legitimate features to their users, they also display advertising content that malware researchers find frequent hazards to the safety or performance of the affected Web browser.
Installing the Software You Want – and nothing Else
Since its primary symptom is a pop-up installation request that continues to launch until VUUPC's successful installation, a Windows Version Installer rarely is difficult to identify. However, its association with multiple types of PUPs causes malware experts to encourage using automated anti-adware products for removing a Windows Version Installer. Normally, any automatically-recurring pop-ups for a Windows Version Installer may be related to the download or installation of other PUPs from unsafe sources, such as torrents.
Distribution campaigns for the Windows Version Installer are date to both 2013 and 2014. While English-speaking PC users sometimes are victims, current statistics indicate that the Windows Version Installer also may be distributed heavily in Russia. However, no matter what nation you live in, exercising strong caution over your browser's security and avoiding downloads from potentially risky sources should give your PC the most important protection from a Windows Version Installer. In other cases, anti-adware and anti-malware products used to scan suspicious files should be able to identify the Windows Version Installer or other, similarly disreputable bundle programs.
Like the products the Windows Version Installer distributed, the Windows Version Installer is compatible with most versions of Windows, but malware experts have yet to see if the Windows Version Installer pop-ups affect other OSes.
