Uninstalling on iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4 or newer

Removal of beta software profile from devices running iOS or iPadOS versions 16.4 or newer can be achieved without necessitating the use of a computer.

Turning off Beta Updates

To commence, navigate your way to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates on your device. In this menu, your task is to find and select the option labeled 'Off'. By turning off Beta updates, you can prevent your device from installing future beta versions of the operating system.

Restarting iPhone for current iOS installation

After disabling Beta updates, the next step involves restarting your iPhone. This action prompts your device to install the current stable version of iOS available. Upon the restart, your device will now be running the non-beta iOS version.

Note on Apple Watch (iOS compatibility)

If you own an Apple Watch operating on WatchOS 10, it's important to note that your iPhone needs to be running on iOS 17 in order for the two devices to efficiently connect and interact. Should you desire to downgrade to WatchOS 9, this would entail an in-person visit to an Apple store, as it can't be achieved independently.

Uninstalling on iOS 16.3.1 or iPadOS 16.3 or earlier

If your device operates an iOS or iPadOS earlier than 16.4—specifically iOS 16.3.1 or iPadOS 16.3—the uninstallation process varies slightly.

Removing Beta Software Profile

Commence by visiting Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Here, you should see the iOS or iPadOS Beta Software Profile listed. Select it, followed by choosing 'Remove Profile'. If prompted, insert your device's password to authenticate. Upon successful execution of these steps, your device's Beta software profile will be removed.

Restart and Confirm

The next course of action is to restart your device. Once it has powered up again, navigate back to Settings > General > Software Update to ensure that the Beta software profile has been fully removed. It's important to note that if the original installation of the iOS or iPadOS beta was performed using a computer, then the same equipment will be required for the successful removal of the beta version from your device.

Uninstalling on iOS 16.3.1 or iPadOS 16.3 or earlier

If you are using a version of iOS or iPadOS that is 16.3.1 or 16.3, respectively, or an earlier version, the method of uninstalling the beta software profile is slightly different.

Navigating to VPN & Device Management

The first step is to open settings on your device. Then, navigate to General > VPN & Device Management. In this section, you will find a list of all device profiles installed on your iPhone or iPad.

Removing Beta Software Profile

Search for the Beta Software Profile among the list of device profiles. Once you've found the iOS or iPadOS Beta Software Profile, select it. A new screen will open with an option to 'Remove Profile'. If you are asked to put in the device passcode, provide it, then proceed to remove the profile. It's important to note that once the profile has been deleted, your iPhone or iPad will no longer receive iOS or iPadOS beta updates.

Restarting device and checking Software Update

After successful removal of the beta profile, restart your iPhone or iPad. This step is vital as it completes the removal process. After the device has powered up again, navigate back to Settings > General > Software Update. This allows you to verify that the software update setting no longer offers beta updates. An important reminder is that, if you had originally installed the iOS or iPadOS beta using a computer, you would need that computer again to fully remove the beta from your device.

Uninstalling Beta using a Computer

If you have a developer beta version on your device, it's possible to uninstall it by first erasing your device and then restoring it. However, this process is a bit more involved and you're going to need a computer to help you along the way.

Requirement of macOS or iTunes update

This process begins by making sure that you have the latest version of macOS or iTunes installed on your computer. If you don't already have these updates, you'll need to install them before proceeding. Once your software is up to date, you can connect your device to the computer so you can put it in recovery mode.

Backup considerations

An important factor to consider is that your backup created with the iOS beta version won't be compatible with an older version of iOS. As such, it's best to ensure you make a backup of your important data and settings on your device using iCloud or iTunes from the current stable iOS version. Keep in mind, if you haven't created a backup using the current version of iOS, this method will not work for you.

Putting iPhone or iPad in recovery mode

The method to place your device in recovery mode varies depending on the device's model. The general process involves pressing a combination of the power button and volume buttons until you see the recovery mode screen. Once in recovery mode, your device should be detected by your computer's iTunes or macOS, prompting you to restore the device.

Using iTunes/Finder to restore

Once your device is in recovery mode, iTunes or Finder on your computer will detect it and prompt you to restore the device. Click on the 'Restore' option, and then confirm the action. Wait for the device to be restored and for the stable version of iOS to be installed. During the restoration, you may be asked for your Apple ID and password to disable the Activation Lock. After this process, you'll have the option to restore the device from recent backup data and settings. The end result is your device running on your chosen iOS version without any beta software bugs or glitches.

Removing iOS 17 without a Computer

If you're looking to remove iOS 17 beta from your device without using a computer, you can follow a few simple steps.

Turning off Beta Updates

The first thing you should do is ensure that beta updates are turned off on your device. To do this, you need to open the 'Settings' app and navigate to General > Software Update > Beta Updates and make sure it is toggled to 'Off'. This prevents your device from receiving updates for beta versions of iOS.

Removing Beta Profile

Next, you'll need to delete the beta profile from your device. To remove it, navigate to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Here, you'll see the iOS 17 beta profile listed. By selecting the beta profile and then selecting 'Remove Profile', you can effectively erase it from your device. It's worth noting that upon deleting this profile, your device will automatically halt any further iOS beta updates.

Restarting Phone

With the beta updates turned off and the beta profile removed, the last step involves restarting your device. By doing so, any changes made will be fully applied and the device will no longer carry the iOS 17 beta software. Once the restart is complete, you may choose to wait for the next stable iOS update and install it at your convenience. Any glitches you've been experiencing with the beta version should now be resolved.
