Windows Photos App Not Working

Posted: January 26, 2021

The Windows Photos application is one of the most frequently used Windows applications since it allows you to browse your favorite pictures without using heavier software. Understandably, experiencing issues with the Windows Photos application can be a significant annoyance. You should be attentive to some of the troubleshooting tips, which can help you overcome such trouble. If your Windows Photos application is not working, then we recommend the fixes below:

Check for Pending Windows Updates

Outdated Windows features and components may sometimes behave unexpectedly, and this is why you should always apply the latest updates immediately. To check for pending updates, go to the 'Settings' menu through the Windows Start Menu. Once there, open the 'Update & Security' tab and see if you have any prompts to install updates.

Run the Windows Troubleshooter

Windows is surprisingly good at solving unexpected problems with its features. To try and fix the bug with the Windows Photos application, you need to open the 'Settings' panel through the 'Start Menu.' Once there, select 'Troubleshoot' from the left menu, and then pick the 'Additional Troubleshooters' option. Finally, press 'Run the troubleshooter' for Windows Store applications.

Re-register the Photos Application with Windows

To do this, you need to use the Windows PowerShell prompt. Press the Windows + R buttons to see the 'Run' prompt and type 'powershell' but DO NOT press 'OK.' Instead, press the 'Shift + Control + Enter' combination. This will launch the PowerShell utility with elevated privileges. Once the blue window is open, type the following and press Enter:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.Windows.Photos | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Restart the Computer

If all fails, then restarting your computer might be a last-ditch effort to try and recover the Windows Photos application.
