Security Tool

Security Tool Description

ScreenshotSecurity Tool is a rogue anti-spyware program that uses fake security alerts and system scan results to make computer users believe that they must purchase the Security Tool program to remove the found threats. Security Tool comes from the same group of attackers that made the fake security programs Security Shield, System Security and Total Security 2009.

Use of Security Tool will not help alleviate the threat of legitimate parasites. Security Tool, through the use of Trojans and malicious websites, can be installed onto your computer without notification. After installation of Security, usually without warning to the computer, it may display the following bogus notification alert:

“Security Tool Warning
Spyware.IEMonster activity detected. This is spyware that attempts to steal passwords from Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Outlook and other programs.
Download SpyHunter Spyware Scanner
Click here to remove it immediately with SecurityTool.”

Security Tool was noted as being just the opposite of any legitimate program with the name ‘Security Tool’. The hackers that created the rogue Security Tool have intentionally given it that name to further mislead computer users. Basically, the hackers want computer users to think that Security Tool has the functionality to detect and remove parasites therefore they should purchase the full version of Security Tool to carry out those actions. The only problem is Security Tool does not have that type of capability.

It is suggested that notifications like this be ignored and prompt the action of completely removing the Security Tool application from your computer. Detection and removal of Security Tool can be difficult to perform manually so it is recommended that the use of a spyware removal tool be used.

There is only one way to do it. If you have another coetmpur not infected, you need to copy the exe for system restore (restrui.exe), found in /windows/system 32, and either copy to a network drive, or copy to some external device, then run it on the infected machine, and roll back the coetmpur to a time before Home Security 2011 was installed.I did that, and Vista Home Security 2011 was remove from my system.

  • Kaycee Hartry says:

Thanks for the suggestion regarding System Restore … fortunately I hadn’t clicked any of the fake options (other than Close) and so it worked for me. Since I had lost internet connectivity, my tech support couldn’t troubleshoot it (work from home) and was going to have me ship the unit to them. So it save my non-profit $$$.

  • will says:

this worked for me as well thank you

  • Tim H says:

i swear to god, if this spyhunter thing screws stuff even more i will…. im still thinken about it but please let this work security tool suck i could download the spyhunter and it says so far i have 2 threats thanks guys

  • HahaEPICFAILsecuritytoolIDIOT says:

Yeah… it’s a bad virus. Got infected with it one night through genuine ‘site’s ad’s (look for booby-trapped ads on BBC for info- scary). It said I had 38 viruses. Maybe it was a different variant but it let me on the net.
So I then downloaded MBAM, windows security essentials and trend micro stuff (5 total anti-viruses- im a bit like fort knox?).
You do have to load in safe mode though as it’s a sly thing.
And if you’ve typed ANY account info in online with this- you’re doomed. Get rid of it and change ALL your passwords.

So… my advice: download Malbytes anti-malware scanner, and look up trend micro (especially HijackThis).
And don’t ever pay someone who CAN’T spell (they spelled you’re as your’re.)

  • Brittany says:

EVERYONE. FOR THOSE WHO ARE TRYING TO DOWNLOAD THIS PRODUCT, MAKE SURE YOU BOOT YOUR COMPUTER INTO SAFE MODE, BY PRESSING F8 WHILE YOUR COMPUTER IS LOADING UP. THANK YOU,

  • Lukas says:

I got the same problem as every1 else. I cant don anything on my PC except on Safe Mode and even then it cant find it (Malwarebytes & SpyBot-S&D) Anytime i’m not on safemode i cant do anything and the screen is blue telling me to… “PLEASE REMOVE ALL SPYWEAR FOR THE BEST PROTECTION!” in bold red letters. I too dont know how i got this as i was just playing a mmorpg and suddnely an error popped up. Security tool as well.
Right now doing this on Safe Mode and it wont let me download this Spyware thing.

  • reese says:

security sheild will not allow me to open spyhunter……what do i do ?

  • read roger's method says:

Read the blog before posting. Roger’s method is sound and should work for most savvy users. For others, I guess spend the money on SpyHunter, though I do not spend money on anything! Good luck :)

  • dijoj9@ptd.net says:

  • bryce says:

dont delete any files! turn cpu off and hit f8 then select safe mode with networking and download and installl then…worked for me 100 percent.

  • Maria says:

oh my lord this is happening to me what do I do I ve been trying to get rid of it for the past 3 hours system tool comes up its no in uninstall ive done F8 but nothing my antivirus only run out last week. boo hooo. can someone help me please

  • Larry says:

Start in safe mode by repeatedly tapping F8 as you boot the computer. Go to c:/users/—your name—/appdata/local/—–number below—- DELETE this file in safe mode. This is how I got the program to stop running so I could delete the rest of the files.

“—-number below—-” There will be a number when you drag and hold the mouse over the system tray on the lower right corner of the screen where the Security Tool icon is displayed. Mine was 40714.

I think this fixed the problem, hoping it doesn’t come back.

  • ED says:

I got rid of it by rebooting the computer on safe mode (F8 when reboot) then after loged in on safe mode I made a system restore to a computer checkpoint checkpoint a week ago. When it started again the virus was gone. Hope this help.

  • Angela says:

Thanks a lot! it really helped! Guys follow the first advice, it really worked! Good luck!! :)

  • JA says:

Here’s what I did to get rid of it: Restarted my infected computer and press F8 to get to start up options screen. Run Windows in Safe Mode with Networking. I could now go online through Firefox and downloaded the program from this site: SpyHunter, because I do not have any other spyware removal programs. I payed for it and it did the work for me, Security Tool is gone. I assume you can just Safe Mode and use any spyware removal programs to get rid of it, not just SpyHunter. It sucks to spend money to fix it, but if you know how to do it manually and can do it for free, go for it. I’m not a programming wiz so I took a leap of faith on it. All that security tool BS was gone in like a minute. Now my laptop is fine, good luck.

  • Jan says:

Roger – thank you for taking the time to post such complete details on how to get rid of Security Tools. It hit my PC yesterday and I did what you suggested. I did have to go into safe mode as the minute I went to delete the sucker it would crash my computer but in safe mode I was able to locate the file, send to recycle, delete, find in the registry and delete. I scanned my computer and now it’s running great and Security Tools is gone. I am not very computer literate and I was able to follow your instructions with great results. Thanks again for sharing.

  • The Truth says:

The only solution that worked for me was to enter safe mode (f8) before the windows loading screen appears on startup. when in safe mode the security tool has no affect. So simply delete the files from your application folder / downloads folder / programmes. When you restart in normal mode you have your computer back. Simples
