Home Malware Programs Adware LyricsOn

LyricsOn

LyricsOn is an advertising-based browser add-on that claims to improve your ability to watch online music videos by adding lyrics to the content. While this feature may be reasonably positive, it's outdone by LyricsOn's advertisements, which load on sites unrelated to its lyrics functions and can't be disabled. As a typical adware program, LyricsOn should be considered a net negative for your browser's optimization and security, and malware researchers consider deleting LyricsOn through the use of relevant anti-adware or general anti-malware tools to be the smartest decision you can make.

When a Browser Add-On Means Always on Advertisements

LyricsOn is a Crossrider-based adware product that monetizes its positive features through displaying advertisements in sites not directly related to other features. Although LyricsOn is not intentionally unreliable, LyricsOn may load potentially unsafe advertisements, and malware experts recommend being careful whenever indulging in Web content promoted by LyricsOn or other less than reputable applications.

LyricsOn attempts to direct your attention away from the presumptive and security-risking nature of its advertising by providing lyrics to accompany streamed music videos for YouTube and other popular streaming websites. Some of the other Crossrider browser add-ons marketed almost identically to LyricsOn include LyricsMonkey, LyricsContainer, ElectroLyrics and LyricsPal.

All of these programs, like all known LyricsOn variants, are considered adware for their ability to modify Web pages locally and display advertisements. LyricsOn implements this automatic advertising platform along with a noticeable dearth of settings for controlling how they're displayed, which may lead to poor browser performance and related issues. Malware experts note that current variants of LyricsOn especially have been known to modify Internet Explorer settings, although they also may use features intended to affect other Windows browsers.

Shutting a LyricsOn Add-On Off, for Your Browser's Sake

Adware programs rarely have any meaningful benefits to your browser that could even come close to counterbalancing their roughshod implementation of non-consensual advertisements. LyricsOn is an all-too-predictable continuation of this programming trend, and malware researchers consider deleting LyricsOn with whatever anti-malware software you fancy to be a healthy default response whenever LyricsOn's advertisements start to make themselves known.

Although, to date, LyricsOn's distribution methods haven't been identified, LyricsOn's relatives within its family have been known to bundle with separate gaming programs. File-distributing torrent networks, freeware sites, software piracy-related Web destinations and other high risk download sources should be inspected with caution prior to trusting their links, which are a probable source of LyricsOn installations through discreet software bundles.

LyricsOn installations only have been observed in Windows OSes, at this time. Different versions of Windows, including XP, Windows 7 and Vista, all may be affected by LyricsOn – or, for that matter, many other Crossrider-based browser add-ons.
