PWS:Win32/Fareit.A is spyware that steals confidential information – especially passwords for major FTP utilities – and transfers this data back to criminals. Besides this primary attribute, PWS:Win32/Fareit.A also has internal coding similarities to other PC threats and may be installed with malicious software, such as Reveton-based Police Trojans, members of the Ldpinch family of spyware or variants of Karagany (a group of Trojans with malware-downloading features). Like other variants of Fareit, PWS:Win32/Fareit.A may be installed with other Trojans, including some Bitcoin miners that have the potential to harm your computer's resource allocation and stability. SpywareRemove.com malware analysts suggest using appropriate anti-malware tools whenever deleting PWS:Win32/Fareit.A may be needed, which will allow you to detect and remove all threats related to PWS:Win32/Fareit.A with as much ease as possible.

PWS:Win32/Fareit.A: a Far Gaze for Seeing Information Worth Stealing

PWS:Win32/Fareit.A is one of various members of the Fareit family, a multiple-component spyware family that also has been updated to include other attacks, such as the ability to mine Bitcoins. Under most cases, SpywareRemove.com malware experts warn that you will not see any symptoms of a PWS:Win32/Fareit.A infection, but a Bitcoin miner may cause your PC to become unusually slow, use excessive CPU percentages or crash. However, PWS:Win32/Fareit.A doesn't include any Bitcoin-mining functions of its own, even though PWS:Win32/Fareit.A may be installed along with other PC threats that can use these functions.

For its own purpose, PWS:Win32/Fareit.A is dedicated towards finding and stealing information for logging in to FTP accounts. PWS:Win32/Fareit.A targets specific FTP applications for appropriate information, many of which SpywareRemove.com malware experts have noted in the following list:

  • Core FTP
  • Direct FTP
  • FTP Explorer
  • FTPCommander
  • NetDrive
  • SmartFTP
  • TurboFTP
  • WebDrive
  • Windows Commander

Types of information that PWS:Win32/Fareit.A attempts to steal from these programs includes passwords, account login names and general computer-related data (such as any port numbers in use). This information is transferred to criminals for further exploitation, with the transferal being protected by a basic compression technique.

Throwing Mud in this Password-Snatcher's Eyes

PWS:Win32/Fareit.A attempts to hide from any immediate observation, and may be essentially undetectable by eye (except for its resource allocation and network usage). SpywareRemove.com malware research team also warns that PWS:Win32/Fareit.A's family has a reputation for using multiple PC threats in concert, and you never should assume that PWS:Win32/Fareit.A is the only Trojan on your computer at any given time.

You should remove PWS:Win32/Fareit.A with appropriate anti-malware products, which also should be able to undo the Registry changes that PWS:Win32/Fareit.A makes in its installation process. However, any already-transferred data still may be at risk, and SpywareRemove.com malware experts recommend that you change any FTP account logins that could be exploited by criminals before the worst can occur.
