Ransomware-Infected Netflix Login Generator Promises Free Netflix but Encrypts Files Instead

There is a mass hysteria as of late surrounding the emergence of ransomware and all that comes with what is known as one of the most dangerous types of malware to hit computers. Now, according to a recent blog post on the Kaspersky security site, a new app called Netflix Login Generator is laced with ransomware that locks up computers through encryption of data while it demands $100 in Bitcoins to unlock the encrypted files.

As most of us know, Netflix is one of the most popular video streaming services, and it would be rainbows and butterflies if everyone could access the service without paying for it. As it turns out, the Netflix Login Generator is touted as just that, a program that promises to grant free access to Netflix. Unfortunately, Netflix Login Generator is found to be a program that has a malicious intent apart from granting free access to Netflix, its ransomware designed to encrypt files and demand a ransom payment.

What Does Netflix Login Generator Do?

What the Netflix Login Generator application does is first play on the conscious of PC users who wish to access Netflix illegally. Once installed, Netflix Login Generator acts much like well-known ransomware where it will encrypt your data while displaying a window. In the case of Netflix Login Generator, the pop-up message displayed is one that's confusing to most as end-users attempt to get a free login to access Netflix. Afterward, Netflix Login Generator will display a note demanding $100 in Bitcoins to decrypt the files that it initially encrypted.

Much of how Netflix Login Generator works can be closely compared to popularized ransomware threats, such as CryptoLocker, Locky Ransomware, Osiris Ransomware, and others. One of the more surprising aspects of Netflix Login Generator is that it only affects PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 10. Any other version of Windows the ransomware-laced app fails to run on for now. Moreover, there are other limitations in that the Netflix Login Generator ransomware doesn't encrypt all file types but is limited to a vast array of media and text file types for encryption.

Computer security researchers expect there to be updates to the Netflix Login Generator ransomware and potentially other similar programs make their way onto vulnerable PCs through malicious downloads.

As a lesson to curious computer users, downloading and using tools the claim to provide unauthorized access to certain services may come back to bite you hard. It's sometimes best to be honest and pay your proper dues now rather than paying a whole lot later.
