Generic PUP.z!bc

Posted: January 7, 2010

Generic PUP.z!bc is not a virus or a Trojan. It is detected as a "potentially unwanted program" (PUP) or malware. PUPs are sometimes made by a legitimate corporate entity for some beneficial purpose, but they can alter the security state of the computer on which they are installed, or the privacy posture of the user of the system, such that most users will want to be aware of them. Generic PUP.z!bc can be detected and removed using a reliable anti-spyware program.

Ok I have Mcafee teling me to remove Generic PUP.z I'm going to do that ASAP. Nothing else was located, all clean. But I now I have MS installer launching when I open a program to use, like MS word etc. What the heck is going on now. I have checked to make sure my PC is opertating properly and can't come up with a reason. I'm running XP on a Dell XPS desktop ExGen 5. I thought it was my new HP 8500-A909a printer, so I removed the software and re-installed it. I first set a system restore before, defragged and removed quick books. I haven't installed anynew software for almost 1 year and this problem is recent, since the new printer in December 2010. Any ideas?
