"Protect your Visa card online with a personal password" email is a phishing email scam. "Protect your Visa card online with a personal password" email states that you need to protect your Visa card with a new password, and to activate it you must enter your card number. The following is text found of the "Protect your Visa card online with a personal password" email:

"Subject: Protect your Visa card online with a personal password

Reply-To: service@visa.com

Verified by Visa protects your existing Visa card with a password you create, giving you assurance that only you can use your Visa card online.

Simply activate your card and create your personal password. You'll get the added confidence that your Visa card is safe when you shop at participating online stores.

You may activate now by entering your card number over our secure server. If your card issuer is participating in Verified by Visa (most issuers are) you'll complete a brief activation process. You'll verify your identity, create your Verified by Visa password and you're done."

The email is quite deceptive because if you click on the hyperlink it will take you to the legitimate Visa site, but if you click on the button, you're taken to a scam site. Visa does not send out such emails. Always be wary of suspicious emails and don't click on anything in the email. Delete the email right away.

If you happen to be tricked by this scam, notify Visa and your bank IMMEDIATELY. You may need to close your accounts. In addition, remove the infection as soon as possible.
