Trojan.DNS

Posted: July 9, 2009

Trojan.DNS (also referred to as DNS.Trojan) is a trojan horse that downloads various malevolent files onto your infected PC and opens security holes for unauthorized users to gain access to your system. Typically, Trojan.DNS is spread through adult content websites or through spam email attachments and suspicious multimedia updates. Trojan.DNS is known to corrupt executable files and modify system files to prevent legitimate security utilities from receiving infection updates.

It took me a week or so to finally get it, but here's how to really get rid of it!
From what I learned, it infects your router DNS settings, not your computer per se, so even my mac was getting redirects all of the time!
    1. Unplug your router, turn off the internet
    2. Run Malwarebytes to get rid of the DNS trojan
    3. Go to Start-> Run-> enter CMD hit enter. Then type cd\ hit enter. Then type
ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter (notice the space after ipconfig!
    4. Plug your router back in, but don't turn on your internet connection yet. On the back of the router, there should be a reset button, press it until the router resets.
    5. Turn your connection back on, and log into IE. It should make you re-set up your router. When I completed this step, Everything was great, and no more DNS trojan. I updated my windows and my anti-virus and have been doing well.

    Good Luck
