Adneukine

Posted: March 1, 2013

Also known by the alias of Lyposit, Adneukine is a group of ransomware Trojans that cover your desktop with fake legal warnings (with contents that are designed to be specific to various countries throughout Europe) and block you from using your computer. Europe is a particularly high-value target for Adneukine ransomware, which will load a regionally-appropriate fake police warning by detecting your IP and then contacting an external website for the relevant image file. SpywareRemove.com malware researchers recommend that you treat all variants of Adneukine as malicious and illegal software to be exterminated with appropriate anti-malware tools, but you may also need to use extra measures to disable Adneukine before removing Adneukine.

The Three Ways That Adneukine Makes Life Difficult for You

Prominent members of the Adneukine family include 'El Equipo Ha Sido Bloqueado' Ransomware, 'Computeren er Blevet Blokeret' Ransomware, Royal Canadian Mount Police (RCMP) Ransomware, 'Tá do ríomhaire cosc curtha' Ransomware, Datamaskinen Din Er Last Ransomware, 'Ihr Computer Wurde Blockiert' Ransomware and 'Komputer zostal zablokowany naruszenia prawa polskiego' Ransomware. SpywareRemove.com malware researchers have found that most attacks by Adneukine target nations around Europe, but countries in other regions of the world also are vulnerable to a slightly lesser extent.

Adneukine's main attack is to block your desktop with a fake warning about your seemingly illegal PC usage that has forced Adneukine to lock your computer. While Adneukine pretends to be collecting a legal fee that Adneukine claims should be paid immediately, Adneukine isn't a tool of any real law enforcement organization and never should be paid.

Along with its pop-up, Adneukine also attacks your PC by:

  • Adneukine modifies your Registry to disable the Windows Task Manager.
  • While Adneukine is open, Adneukine will monitor all other windows on your computer. If Adneukine detects any other program windows besides its own, Adneukine will close them immediately.

Solving the Three-Fold Adneukine Problem

Although Adneukine may, at first glance, seem like a nigh-impenetrable barrier to your other software, SpywareRemove.com malware research team can recommend two particularly easy methods of disabling Adneukine. This applies regardless of which national variant of Adneukine is attacking your computer.

Firstly, you may attempt to restart in Safe Mode, which will disable unnecessary processes – potentially including Adneukine. If Safe Mode doesn't disable Adneukine or all other malware on your computer, you can load a temporary OS from your USB drive. In either case, once you've gotten past Adneukine's startup exploit, you should delete Adneukine as quickly as possible.

As a general precaution, SpywareRemove.com malware researchers recommend the use of anti-malware programs for deleting Adneukine. Adneukine's components use randomly-generated file names, and attempting to remove all of Adneukine's files by eye is a less surefire means of disinfecting your PC than enacting a simple anti-malware scan.
