Awesomehp.com

Posted: January 22, 2014

Awesomehp.com Screenshot 1Awesomehp.com is a search-redirecting site that may appear to have search features of its own, but redirects any users to Yahoo. Thanks to the assistance of browser hijackers, Awesomehp.com's search 'features' appear to be undergoing a non-consensual promotional campaign, and malware experts also have noted additional ties between Awesomehp.com and at least one confirmed type of fake system optimizer. Even though Awesomehp.com may not harm your computer during a passing visit, installing software promoted from Awesomehp.com is discouraged as a security risk, and any Web browser afflicted by redirects to Awesomehp.com should be disinfected by a suitable anti-malware scanner.

The Awful Results of an 'Awesome' Search Hijacker

Awesomehp.com is one of a vast army of websites by different developers designed with the intent of generating revenue through the search results of legitimate sites, like Yahoo Search, Bing or Google. Despite lacking any real Web-searching features, Awesomehp.com is formatted to look identical to a search engine, with the important differences that Awesomehp.com uses cookie-laced traffic to generate profit and redirects any theoretical searches over to a real search site.

Alone, this behavior isn't illegal, but malware researchers often find sites like Awesomehp.com being promoted by the browser-redirecting effects of browser hijackers and other Potentially Unwanted Programs. Unfortunately, such is the case here, as well, with additional browser add-ons providing locked search settings that force PC users to visit Awesomehp.com instead of their normal search engine. Awesomehp.com hijackers may modify the desktop shortcuts of several popular browsers, along with the other settings changes.

Although browser hijackers often are classified as PUPs, they may be installed by PC threats. Awesomehp.com hijackers also have a certain amount of inherent interface with your Web-browsing quality of life. Since they also deny you the ability to change your browsing settings at will, malware experts often call them out as security hazards, in their own right.

Feeling Awesome About a Web Browser that isn't Railroaded by Awesomehp.com

Awesomehp.com hijackers have uninstall instructions at the website, but these generic instructions are unlikely to remove all components of the browser hijacker, including less than obvious settings changes that could endanger your Web-browsing security. Unless a trustworthy professional in PC security deems otherwise, removing Awesomehp.com hijackers or other PC threats associated with this site always should be done through the use of qualified anti-malware tools.
All popular Windows browsers may be vulnerable to Awesomehp.com hijacks, including IE, Firefox and Chrome.

    Danke Godwin

The sad part is that the browser hacker installed while updating Java despite selecting admin mode and removing all the extras. What a bloody scam!
Thanks for the removal instructions. After refreshing the shortcuts as you instructed things are back to normal.
