Covid-20 Ransomware

Posted: January 7, 2021

The Covid-20 Ransomware is a threatening piece of malware that causes a lot of trouble whenever it manages to infiltrate a computer successfully. The good news is that while the Covid-20 Ransomware appears to be a major nuisance, it might not have the ability to cause long-term damage to your file system. Usually, ransomware focuses on encrypting files, but the Covid-20 Ransomware does no such thing.

In fact, it does not have a working file-encryption routine at all. It will, however, overwrite Windows' boot record. By doing so, it ensures that the next time you power on your computer, your operating system will not load – instead, it will be replaced by a short ransom message, which tells you to provide a payment of $1,000,000 via Bitcoin if you want to use your computer and your files again. The message is a bluff, and there is no need to pay the ransom fee that the criminals ask for. As mentioned above, the Covid-20 Ransomware does not lock files, so they are unharmed.

Recovering from Covid-20 Ransomware's attack may be tricky because it can be done by fixing Windows' boot manager. Once you return to Windows, you will need to make sure that the Covid-20 Ransomware is gone for good. The best way to finish this task is to run an up-to-date anti-virus scanner.
