Dharma-Boost Ransomware

Posted: October 9, 2018

The Dharma-Boost Ransomware is the latest variant of the Dharma Ransomware that was spotted in the wild by cybercriminals. Unfortunately, none of the decryption keys released last year by the Dharma Ransomware’s authors are compatible with the Dharma-Boost Ransomware, therefore making free file decryption an impossible task.

Similar to other versions of the Dharma Ransomware, this one is also being propagated thanks to fake e-mail attachments and by exploiting remote desktop services, which are either outdated or use weak login credentials. If the attackers manage to initialize the Dharma-Boost Ransomware successfully, this threat may begin to encrypt files found on the compromised computer’s hard drive. When the file is locked, the Dharma-Boost Ransomware will rename it by using the typical file extension used by Dharma and its variants – ‘.id-[boston.crypt@tuta.io].boost.’

Do not Give in to the Demands of the Attackers

It is never a good idea to send money to anonymous cybercriminals despite their promises that they will help you get your files back as soon as they get a ransom payment. You never know if these people will be the ones to help you out. Our advice is to avoid reasoning with cybercriminals since this is unlikely to lead to anything good. Instead, you should use a suitable anti-malware tool to eradicate the Dharma-Boost Ransomware’s files. The removal of the file-encryption Trojan does not undo the damage it has caused to your files, and you will need to look into alternative file recovery options whose success is far from guaranteed.
