Dregol.com is a search site that relies on third-party sites for its results and has an extensive background of benefiting from browser hijacking campaigns. Symptoms of a Dregol.com browser hijacker may include being redirected to Dregol.com, having your search settings modified or experiencing problems with using other Web browsers. There are no notable advantages to allowing Web browser hijackings towards Dregol.com (or any other site). Therefore, malware experts always advocate deleting Dregol.com search hijackers, regardless of how little or significantly they may interfere with your Web-surfing activities.

From a Search Hijacking to a Search Redirect

Proceeding with the well-trod business model of older sites like Key-Find.com, Do-search.com or Search.ueep.com, Dregol.com is a Web domain that offers no unique features but attempts to garner Web search traffic, despite its limitations. With the exception of numerous legal agreements and a Web search option redirecting any users to Yahoo, malware researchers found no mentionable content on this site.

Although Dregol.com's flavor text promotes the usage of its Web search add-on, Dregol.com fails to provide download links for this software. However, malware researchers have found unorthodox distribution methods for Dregol software in the form of fraudulent driver updates. These attacks may compromise advertising networks when distributing their installers. The last of these was confirmed recently in 2015, although the Dregol.com website has been under maintenance since the year prior.

Fraudulent update packages also are common means of installation for threatening software, although no threat has been confirmed to bundle with Dregol.com products to date. Likewise, the Dregol.com website isn't rated as threatening and hosts no toxic content directly, as of the last inspections by malware researchers.

Dregol.com's software resets the Chrome browser's search engine to redirect to Dregol.com and, correspondingly, Yahoo Search. Some Dregol installations also caused other settings changes, with the most commonly reported symptom being problems launching non-Chrome browsers, such as Firefox. Some victims of these unwanted Dregol installations also reported reduced Web-browsing speed.

Dragging Your Web Searches Back from Dregol.com

Dregol.com doesn't attempt to subvert your PC's security, but allowing Dregol software to hijack your search settings holds no benefits for you as a Web surfer. Unless circumstances change to offer valid advantages for using Dregol, malware experts encourage removing Dregol.com hijackers from Chrome and all other browsers. Since Dregol.com add-ons aren't threatening, you should use specialized anti-PUP software or all-inclusive security suites to delete these browser hijackers most efficiently. Resetting your browser's search settings may stop the symptom of being redirected to Dregol.com, but will not remove the related software.

However, perhaps the most important lesson from Dregol.com's history is in its current download strategy. Updates that third parties offer to you, rather than direct company links, rarely provide legitimate patches, and even more rarely will refrain from bundling third-party programs with them. If you're in doubt about whether a patch is official, always refuse the link in question and navigate to an appropriate update source independently.
