EZDZ Ransomware

Posted: May 20, 2019

The EZDZ Ransomware is a cyber-threat that may cause potentially irreversible damage if it is given a chance to run on your computer – file-lockers like this one have gained a lot of popularity, and numerous cybercriminals take advantage of their abilities to extort their victims for money. The authors of the EZDZ Ransomware are unlikely to be any different, and it would not be a surprise if their ransomware also demands a ransom payment in exchange for data decryption software. The good news is that the EZDZ Ransomware is not finished yet (or at least it does not appear to be) since it does not leave a ransom note that contains legitimate information and contact details – instead, the ransom message contains the word ‘test’ and an encoded string that cannot be decoded. Since the EZDZ Ransomware does not deliver a reliable ransom note, it is safe to assume that the attackers are still working on this project.

Despite being in a state of development, the EZDZ Ransomware is still threatening exceptionally since it is fully capable of encrypting your files and making it very difficult to get them back. Currently, it is unknown whether the EZDZ Ransomware can be decrypted for free so that you should assume that the only way to undo the damage is to restore your files from a recent backup. The authors of the EZDZ Ransomware have programmed this file-locker to use the ‘.EZDZ’ extension to mark the locked files, as well as drop the ransom note file ‘HELP_PC.EZDZ-REMOVE.txt.’

If you suspect that the EZDZ Ransomware has locked your files, then we advise you to take the required steps to eliminate the threatening program with the help of a reliable anti-virus scanner. Remember that if the attackers ask you for money, you should not agree to pay them anything – there is no guarantee that they will fulfill their promise, and your money might end up being taken. After you have removed the EZDZ Ransomware, you should restore your data from a backup or use data recovery tools.
