Gomer Ransomware

Posted: June 23, 2020

The Gomer Ransomware is a newly discovered file-encryption Trojan whose creators are spreading it online already. They rely on multiple techniques to reach as many victims as possible – spam emails, torrents, fake downloads and more. Victims of the Gomer Ransomware are likely to experience huge data loss because of this threat's ability to encrypt the contents of file formats permanently – documents, images, archives, videos and others. Whenever the Gomer Ransomware encrypts a file, it will make sure to mark its name by adding the '.gomer' extension. Finally, the ransomware ends the attack by creating the file 'GOMER-README.txt' that is placed on the desktop. The latter file contains a message from the attackers who shed some light on the attack and advise the victim to pay for a decryption service.

According to the ransom note, victims of the Gomer Ransomware have no hope of recovering their files for free, and they have to purchase a decryption tool by contacting the attackers via the email support-gomer@pm.me. The ransom fee is not specified, but the perpetrators mention that they only accept payments via Bitcoin. Finally, they state that they are prepared to decrypt one file for free so that their victims will have proof that the decryptor works.

If you have become a victim of the Gomer Ransomware attack, then we advise you not to panic and consider paying the ransom fee that the criminals demand. Even if you end up fulfilling their requests, you may still end up being tricked out of your money. The suggestion to victims of the Gomer Ransomware is to eradicate the threatening program with the help of an up-to-date anti-malware application. Once the Gomer Ransomware is gone, they can try out alternative data recovery methods that may help them get some of their files back. The only guaranteed way to undo the Gomer Ransomware's damage is to recover your files from a backup.
