HDLocker Ransomware

Posted: February 11, 2021

The HDLocker Ransomware is a new file-encryption whose author may originate from China since this is the language used in the ransom note. Unfortunately, the HDLocker Ransomware already has a working file-locking algorithm, and it has the ability to cause a lot of damage if it manages to infect your system successfully. Other parts of the malware appear to be far from finished – the short ransom message lacks critical information such as the contact details of the attacker. In addition to this, researchers who came across the sample encountered numerous bugs and errors while trying to analyze its modus operandi, which is another sign that the project is either unfinished or its creator is low-skilled.

Files locked by the HDLocker Ransomware are marked with the '_HD' extension. Users should never agree to send money to ransomware creators because they are very likely to end up tricked. If the HDLocker Ransomware has damaged your data, you should proceed to run an anti-malware tool as soon as possible. Keep in mind that removing the HDLocker Ransomware will only prevent the threat from damaging more files – it will not undo the damage that has already been done.

The only guaranteed way to undo the damage caused by the HDLocker Ransomware is to recover the encrypted files from a backup if one is available. If you do not have access to a backup, then you may need to resort to alternative, less reliable data recovery tools and options.
