Hdmr Ransomware

Posted: October 25, 2019

The Hdmr Ransomware is a file-encryption Trojan that is not compatible with any of the readily available decryption tools. The operators of this ransomware may distribute it with the use of phishing emails, fake downloads, and pirated software or media – to protect yourself and your computer from cyber-threats, you should avoid downloading unknown files, if they come from a shady source especially.

Often, dealing with the consequences of a malware attack may be as simple as running an anti-virus scanner, but, unfortunately, in the case of a ransomware attack, the task may be much more difficult. The purpose of the Hdmr Ransomware is to encrypt your documents, images, videos, databases, archives, and other file types so that you will not be able to use them. All files that the Hdmr Ransomware locks will be renamed to include the '.hdmr' extension and their contents will be encrypted securely. After the file-encryption attack is complete, the Hdmr Ransomware will drop the ransom message 'ReadMeAndcontact.txt' – this file is often placed on the desktop, and it contains a short message from the attackers.

A New Ransomware Asks Victims to Negotiate a Price

It is not a surprise that the authors of the Hdmr Ransomware are looking to get paid in exchange for the decryption tool they claim to have – victims are asked to message lafoievologjanin123@tutanota.com and lafoievologjanin123@protonmail.com to negotiate the price and receive proof that the cybercriminals can complete the data decryption task.

It is never a good idea to pay money to anonymous cyber crooks even if they claim to have the only solution that can help you get your files back. Even if you fulfill their requests, it is possible that they may end up tricking you out of your money. If you think that the Hdmr Ransomware has encrypted your files, then you should proceed to run an anti-malware application that will ensure the full removal of the ransomware's files. Sadly, this will not undo the damage done to your files, and you will need to either restore them from a backup or look for other data recovery options.
