Lockedv1 Ransomware

Posted: January 1, 2021

Lockedv1 Ransomware is a newly identified file-locker that uses a very secure file-locking mechanism to prevent its victims from accessing their data. If this malware infiltrates a computer, the victim may soon lose the ability to use their essential documents, archives, media, backups and other files. All locked files will have the extension '.lockedv1' extension to their names and the original name will be encoded as well.

The authors of the Lockedv1 Ransomware are trying to extort their victims for money by asking them to visit a TOR-based payment page to learn the payment details. The hackers' full instructions are found in the file called 'READMEv1.txt', which the malware drops on the desktop. However, the attackers do not reveal much about the situation – they ask the victim to download the TOR browser and then visit a TOR-based payment portal.

It is not clear what amount of money the criminals ask for, but we assure you that you should not consider this approach. Even if you fulfill Lockedv1 Ransomware's authors' demands, there is no guarantee that they will stay true to their word. It is never a good idea to purchase stuff from ransomware operators because they may decide to tactic you or extort you for more money.

Unfortunately, the Lockedv1 Ransomware is not decryptable for free and its victims only can recover their files from a backup reliably. If a backup is not available, then they should experiment with popular data recovery software and techniques. Of course, you should always make sure to eliminate the Lockedv1 Ransomware first with the use of an up-to-date anti-virus scanner.
