Mira Ransomware

Posted: April 8, 2019

The Mira Ransomware is a file-locker, which has already been decrypted by cybersecurity experts, therefore providing the victims of this ransomware with the ability to recover all of their files free of charge. Sadly, the recovery of this data would be a nearly impossible task if the Mira Ransomware has used a more sophisticated file-encryption routine – many ransomware victims end up unable to get any of their files back, and they may often resort to risky solutions such as paying a ransom sum to the ransomware’s operators. In the case of the Mira Ransomware, its victims might find out that a large portion of their files have had their names change by adding the ‘.mira’ extension. In addition to this, the Mira Ransomware also may drop the ransom message ‘!!!READ_IT!!!.txt’ – a text written by the attackers who state that the only way to recover the locked files is to pay a ransom sum via Bitcoin. They do not specify the amount of money they ask for, but they do add two email addresses that can be used to reach them - recoverymydata@protonmail.com and recoverydata@india.com.

The Mira Ransomware may reach its victims via fake email messages that contain an infected file attachment – if you ignore these messages, then you will not be at risk. However, users who download the attachments may end up becoming one of the Mira Ransomware’s victims unless they have an up-to-date anti-malware program to keep them safe.

The Mira Ransomware is identified as a variant of the Planetary Ransomware – a ransomware family that is home to file-lockers such as the HC7 Planetary Ransomware, HC6 Planetary Ransomware, and others. Thankfully, all of those and the Mira Ransomware can be decrypted by using the free ‘Planetary Decryptor.’ Remember that before you attempt to recover your files, you should ensure the Mira Ransomware’s full removal by using a trustworthy anti-virus scanner to clean up your computer.
