Mnbzr Ransomware

Posted: July 30, 2020

If your files have become inaccessible recently and their names use the 'mnbzr' extension, you should have fallen victim to a new and threatening file-encryption Trojan. The threat, dubbed Mnbzr Ransomware, is meant to encrypt the files on the compromised system, and then create a ransom message, which extorts the victim for money. Unfortunately, the Mnbzr Ransomware can be very devastating since this threat is able to encrypt a wide variety of file types, therefore maximizing the damage it can cause. After a file is locked, the Mnbzr Ransomware will append the extension '.id-<VICTIM ID>.[trfgklmbvzx@aol.com].mnbzr.' Finally, it creates the ransom note 'FILES ENCRYPTED.txt' that victims will usually find in all directories that contain at least one encrypted file.

Getting infected by the Mnbzr Ransomware is not as unlikely as you may think – many users are unaware of the malware propagation channels that cybercriminals usually use, and they are the ones that are more likely to fall victims of the Mnbzr Ransomware's attack. This threat, in particular, is being spread via phishing emails that have been crafted to look like a legitimate company, institution or agency is sending them out. The recipient of the email virus often may be told that the attached file contains important information regarding payment, tax return, invoice, parcel delivery, or something of this sort. However, when the decoy file is opened, the Mnbzr Ransomware will be loaded in the background and the devastating attack will begin.

The Dharma-Mnbzr Ransomware is not Decryptable via Free Utilities

Sadly, there is no reliable and free way to unlock the files that the Mnbzr Ransomware takes hostage. This threat is based on the well-known Dharma Ransomware family, and this means that the Mnbzr Ransomware uses an excellent file-encryption algorithm that cannot be cracked. To restore the files, victims will need to use the specialized decryption key that the Mnbzr Ransomware generated when it infects their systems. Unfortunately, this valuable piece of information is transferred to the cybercriminals' control server and they are the only entity in possession of it.

The ransom note of the Mnbzr Ransomware tells victims that they will need to purchase some Bitcoins to send to the attackers via a cryptocurrency transaction. We assure you that doing this is a terrible idea – the cryptocurrency transaction is irreversible, and it would be very easy for cybercriminals to take your money. Instead of risking losing both your money and your files, we advise you to refrain from contacting the criminals. You can start the recuperation process by using an anti-virus scanner to eradicate the Mnbzr Ransomware and then look for popular file recovery tools and options.
