Namaste Ransomware

Posted: February 4, 2021

The Namaste Ransomware is a threat designed to encrypt popular files like documents, images, videos, archives and others. The malware may be spread via fake downloads, pirated software and other shady file types. The best way to stay safe from the Namaste Ransomware and similar file-lockers is to use a reputable anti-malware application, as well as to maintain up-to-date backups of your important files. When the Namaste Ransomware damages a file, it will add the extension '._enc' to its name. Keep in mind that renaming the files is only a visual change, and undoing this will not restore access to your files.

The creators of the Namaste Ransomware use the ransom note 'pay now to recover your files' to provide the victim with their demands. Of course, just like other ransomware creators, they want to receive a ransom payment. Surprisingly, Namaste Ransomware's creators ask for a very small sum – just €10 in exchange for a decryption key. There is no guarantee that the decryption key will be sent to you if you pay the ransom sum.

Even if the payment is so small, you should still not agree to send the money. It will not be surprising if the criminals try to extort you for more money after you complete the first payment – many ransomware authors use this con to collect as much money as possible from their victims. Victims of the Namaste Ransomware should use an anti-malware tool to eliminate the threatening program and then look into other data recovery tools.
