nRansom Ransomware

Posted: May 2, 2018

The nRansom Ransomware is a fake file-locker that was discovered in the first months of 2018, and it quickly attracted the attention of cybersecurity experts with the rather 'dark' requests it had for its victims. Usually, file-lockers offer their victims a simple but expensive solution – to purchase a decryption tool in exchange for money. Often, they want the money to be transferred via a cryptocurrency transaction (such as Bitcoin) in order to prevent the authorities from tracking the funds, as well as to preserve the anonymity of the attackers. The nRansom Ransomware, on the other hand, has an entirely different approach – it asks the victims to send ten nude photos to 1_kill_yourself_1@protonmail.com. The ransom message of the attackers says that all victims who meet this requirement will end up receiving an unlock code that they can use to restore access to their files.

Shortly after the nRansom Ransomware was discovered, cybersecurity experts came across another fake file-locker that mimicked this threat's demands – it is called nRansom Reborn Ransomware, and it once again asks victims to pay the ransom by sending nude photos. However, the number of photos has been increased to 15, and the email has been changed to die_yourself@protonmail.com. Another email address linked to a variant of the nRansom Ransomware is 2_kill_yourself@india.com.

Needless to say, agreeing to send nude photos to random cybercriminals is a terrible idea, even if they claim to be the only people able to get your files back to normal. The good news is that the whole nRansom Ransomware project appears to be a bluff since none of its variants are able to carry out a file-encryption attack. This means that all that nRansom Ransomware can do is to give you a slight scare by displaying a lock screen, which extorts you for nude photos. Getting rid of the threat should be an easy task as long as you use an up-to-date and reliable anti-malware scanner to eradicate nRansom Ransomware from your computer.
