Oct Ransomware

Posted: December 9, 2020

The Oct Ransomware is a threatening file-encryption Trojan, which needs just a few minutes to carry out a devastating attack on infected devices. This ransomware does not appear to belong to any of the widespread ransomware families at the moment, and it is likely that it was developed from scratch by an unknown malware creator. Systems infiltrated by the Oct Ransomware will be packed with encrypted files whose contents cannot be accessed – these files will be recognizable by the extension '.oct' added to their name. Another change that the Oct Ransomware brings is the creation of the file 'READ_ME.txt' on the desktop. This document contains a message from the perpetrators, which includes their contact details and the paid service they offer.

According to the ransom note, the Oct Ransomware victims cannot rely on free decryption software because of how secure the ransomware's encryption routine is. The criminals claim to be in possession of a working decryptor, but they are only willing to sell it in exchange for Bitcoin. They advise the victim to send them a message at octencrypt4444@gmail.com for additional information. The ransom note also contains links to two TOR-based pages, which can be used to pay the ransom fee and contact the criminals behind the project.

Recovering from Oct Ransomware's attack is not an easy task, but we assure you that paying the ransom sum is a bad idea since there is a great chance you will be tricked. Instead of trusting the criminals, the Oct Ransomware victims need to run an anti-virus scanner to remove the threat and then try out alternative data recovery software.
