Omfl Ransomware

Posted: February 3, 2021

File-encryption Trojans carry out some of the most devastating cyberattacks in the world of computers. Recovering from such an attack may be very difficult since these threats usually rely on secure file-locking algorithms that are irreversible via free software. One of the newest file-lockers is called Omfl Ransomware, and, thankfully, victims of its attacks may have a chance to get their data back without needing to ask the criminals for help.

The Omfl Ransomware shares many similarities with the Xorist Ransomware project, and it is likely that the criminals used Xorist as the foundation for their malware. When the Omfl Ransomware attacks a computer, it will apply the '.omfl' extension to locked files – the same extension is used by a variant of the STOP Ransomware too. The Omfl Ransomware is recognizable because it uses the ransom note 'HOW TO DECRYPT FILES.txt.' According to the ransom message, victims need to pay $500 via Bitcoin and contact the email believrop@secmail.pro to receive the decryptor.

The Omfl Ransomware victims need to use a reliable anti-malware tool to remove the threatening application and prevent it from causing more damage. After this, they will need to look for the free 'Xorist Decryptor', which is likely to be capable of reversing the damage done by the Omfl Ransomware.
