Plam Ransomware

Posted: February 16, 2021

The frequency of the STOP Ransomware attacks has died down over the past year, but this is still one of the most active and dangerous ransomware families online. The latest variant of the STOP Ransowmare is called the Plam Ransomware, and, unfortunately, users who fall victim to it will be unable to use a free decryptor to recover their files. The encryption algorithm found in the Plam Ransomware is impossible to crack, and only the ransomware's creators have the key needed to complete the decryption process.

The Plam Ransomware may be spread via fake email messages, fake downloads, pirated content, and other suspicious content. The best way to stay safe is to use a reputable ant-virus product, which will cease Plam Ransomware's attack before it gets a chance to cause any harm. If the Plam Ransomware is not stopped successfully, it will encrypt documents, archives, databases, photos, and dozens of other types of files. Whenever it locks a file, the threat will add the '.plam' extension to its name.

Just like other STOP Ransomware variants, this one also drops the ransom message '_readme.txt' for the victim to read. The note tells them to prepare a ransom payment of $490 and contact helpmanager@mail.ch or helpmanager@airmail.cc for more information. They also threaten to double the ransom sum amount if the victim does not comply with their demands in the next 72 hours.

Victims of the Plam Ransomware need to use an antivirus tool to terminate the threat and prevent it from damaging more files. After the malware is eliminated, they can proceed to restore their files from a backup or to use popular data recovery software suites.
