Snopy Ransomware

Posted: December 11, 2020

The authors of the Snopy Ransomware are extorting their victims for a ransom payment of $20. They hope to convince their victims to purchase a decryption tool, which will help them restore the files that were damaged during the Snopy Ransomware attack. The good news is that paying this small sum may not be necessary. This is because the Snopy Ransomware uses the file-encryption algorithm and features found in the Xorist Ransomware family, a low-quality piece of threatening software whose encryption algorithm is flawed and deciphered.

The Snopy Ransomware attack is still a major annoyance, even if you can rely on a free decryption tool to get your data back to normal. The ransomware prevents its victims from using their important files and marks their names with the '.snopy' extension. It also delivers a threatening message called 'HOW TO DECRYPT FILES.txt.' According to this document, victims have no hope of restoring their files unless they purchase a private key for $20, paid via Bitcoin.

Victims of the Snopy Ransomware should ignore the offer of the criminals. Instead, run an anti-virus scanner to eliminate the threat, and then run the 'Xorist Decryptor' utility to try and restore access to your files.
