Posted: January 26, 2021

The SUMMON Ransomware is a threat that may arrive on your computer through a fake download, fake update, or a shady piece of software you downloaded from a torrent tracker. This malware's authors may rely on different strategies to propagate the corrupted files, and the best way to be protected is to use a reputable anti-virus software suite. Suppose the SUMMON Ransomware's attack is successful. In that case, it will encrypt a large portion of your files and then mark their names by renaming them using the following pattern – '[SummonunLock@gmail.com][id=<VICTIM ID>]<ORIGINAL FILENAME>.SUMMON.'

Then SUMMON Ransomware's creators' plan is to extort their victims for money by promising to give them a decryption tool as soon as they pay a ransom fee. The full instructions of SUMMON Ransomware's authors are stored in the file '#ReadThis.HTA .' It tells victims to contact them via the emails summonunlock@gmail.com and summonunlock@mailfence.com. In addition to this, the criminals offer to unlock one small file for free, but the victim must send it to them first.

Unsurprisingly, the criminals want to be paid via Bitcoin, but we assure you that you should not do this. Even if you end up fulfilling their demands, they may try to extort you for money or even outright steal your money without contacting you again. You should never trust cyber criminals. Victims of the SUMMON Ransomware should use an anti-malware scanner to remove the corrupted files and then look into the best-recommended data recovery options. The most reliable way to undo the damage caused by the SUMMON Ransomware is to restore the damaged files from a backup. If this option is not accessible to you, then you should explore alternative data recovery tools.
