Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

TankGripHook is a browser extension that delivers unwanted advertising content as theoretical e-shopping benefits. Since the tangible security and performance issues of TankGripHook outweigh any supposed advantages from its advertisements, malware experts encourage removing TankGripHook in the same manner as which you would use against any other adware program. Closing your browser and running your anti-adware scans from Safe Mode can reduce any chances of TankGripHook reinstalling itself or retaining any of its browser changes.
A New Source of Unwanted Advertisements Gripping Your Browser
Adware families rarely make any major changes to their essential functions but may generate new brands with minor, under-the-hood differences for avoiding being detected by previous adware definitions. TankGripHook is an emergent example of such an adware product from the Ads By Name family, following fast after similar advertising extensions like CoupMania Ads, Web Layers, CouponJumbo Ads and TorqueChallenger Ads. In the past, malware experts most often see Chrome modified by these adware products, although TankGripHook full range of browser compatibility has yet to be analyzed in-depth.
TankGripHook may modify your browser for displaying its affiliated advertisement content automatically, which TankGripHook may load as product recommendations above any normal Web content. TankGripHook also may monitor your Web-browsing history and searches for displaying 'recommended' products based on what pages you view. There are no features for disabling TankGripHook's advertising while leaving the actual program installed, although TankGripHook may allow you to close its advertisements as they load.
These advertisements may be potential security risks and harm your browser's ability to load other sites. When looking past them, however, malware experts became especially concerned with some of the other, non-advertising functions displayed in some variants of TankGripHook. These may include:
- TankGripHook Ads may hijack your browser downloads by redirecting any download requests to other Website These downloading hijackings may be implemented for substituting a well-known program installer (such as Adobe Flash) with a similar installer that also may bundle adware or other unwanted software with it. However, it also may be used to distribute threatening software.
- Some versions of TankGripHook also may try to reinstall themselves under different names, such as TaaNNkGRRiIpHooKK or tTaenkKGGaripHhoOKKa. These variants of TankGripHook may not necessarily show any extension or Control Panel entries that would let you see a failed deletion immediately.
Tanking Through TankGripHook Troubles
Even if its feature set limited itself to delivering advertisements automatically, the means by which TankGripHook displays its affiliated content may make TankGripHook an inherent security risk with questionable, if any advantages. To account for TankGripHook's confirmed history of trying to block its deletion, PC owners can uninstall TankGripHook Ads by using qualified anti-adware software for scanning their machines. You should avoid trying to delete TankGripHook by modifying your browser's settings or reinstalling your browser, neither of which will remove the TankGripHook software (although you might suppress some of its symptoms).
Many versions of Ads By Name programs may distribute themselves by installers that bundle them with one or more third-party applications. However, if you don't remember downloading files before seeing TankGripHook advertisements, your system may be compromised by threats. Paying attention to the symptoms showing themselves along with the advertising of TankGripHook can save your PC from worse things than browser pop-ups, ranging from bank account hijackings to file encrypting attacks.
