Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

The Velso Ransomware is a new file-encryption Trojan which, thankfully, does not appear to be a finished product. We suspect that the author of the Velso Ransomware might have developed this project for fun, and there's a significant chance that we will never get to see a fully weaponized variant of this file locker distributed online. Regardless of its incomplete state, the Velso Ransomware appears to be relatively functional at this time, and it has the ability to encrypt the contents of files found on the compromised computer. In addition to the file-encryption task, the Velso Ransomware also will drop a ransom note in the file 'get_my_files.txt.' The surprising thing about the ransom message is that the authors do not ask for money openly. Instead, they tell the victims to contact them by messaging MerlinVelso@protonmail.com if they want to get their files back. However, it is possible that users who opt to message the attacker might end up being asked to send a ransom payment in exchange for a decryption software. Regardless of what the threat's author promises, you must remember that sending money to cybercrooks is a bad decision, which might end up costing you both your files and your hard-earned money.
The current variant of this file-locker is programmed to add the '.velso' extension to every encrypted file. Apart from this newly introduced extension and the ransom note, there aren't any other noticeable traces form the Velso Ransomware's attack.
If you've become the victim of a working version of the Velso Ransomware and you can't access the majority of your files, then we advise you to start by contacting the attackers' e-mail address. There's a minor chance that they might be willing to recover the data for free, but don't forget to cease all communication with them if they ask you to pay a ransom fee. If the latter happens, then the recommended way to proceed would be to eliminate the Velso Ransomware with the help of a suitable anti-malware scanner, and then look for 3rd-party file recovery software and methods.
