vGriefferS Ransomware

Posted: February 17, 2021

The vGriefferS Ransomware is a threatening piece of software designed to damage the files it discovers on infected computers. Of course, its creators do not have the intention to simply destroy your files – they also try to extort you for money by dropping a ransom message, which lists their demands. Just like other ransomware creators, the ones behind this project also promise to provide a working decryption service in exchange for a Bitcoin payment. You can rest assured that trusting ransomware operators is a terrible idea, and you are likely to end up being scammed if you decide to fulfill their demands.

When the vGriefferS Ransomware's attack is complete, it will spawn the ransom message in a new window called 'vGriefferS.' Surprisingly, the ransomware does not rename the files it encrypts, and victims might have a hard time distinguishing damaged from non-damaged files. The ransom note is written in Polish, and it tells victims to contact vgrieffers@gmail.com.

We would advise users affected by the vGriefferS Ransomware attack to ignore the demands of the criminals. Instead, they need to run a reputable anti-virus software suite to dispose of the threatening application and then proceed to experiment with other data recovery tools. Unfortunately, the only guaranteed way to restore the damaged files is to recover the original copies from a backup. Some 3rd-party utilities might be able to fix the files partially, but they are unlikely to help you make a full recovery.

Protect yourself from future ransomware attacks by investing in reputable anti-malware services, as well as by building up-to-date backup copies of your important data.
