Video Player is an adware extension that injects extra advertisements into your Web pages as your browser loads them. Video Player is immediately identifiable from its clearly labeled advertisements and makes an effort to distinguish its content from those of unrelated websites. Despite that courtesy, Video Player still is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Program that may have drawbacks for your browser. Anti-adware scanners that detect Video Player should be allowed to uninstall Video Player, in the absence of extraordinary reasons for any other response.

The Advertisements that Keep Playing Whether or not You Want Them

Video Player is advertising software possibly cloned from previous, similar products, such as the reminiscent Ads by Vidx or Better Surf Plus. As with either of these add-ons, Video Player displays advertisements by injecting them into unrelated Web pages arbitrarily. There are no controls provided for disabling this feature either for specific sites or overall. Video Player markets its advertisements as online shopping advantages. However, malware researchers have found that its advertisement content typically lacks the specificity or reputable company references that would make Video Player relatively beneficial in comparison to the average results of a search engine.

Commonly, Video Player advertisements are recognized by their format as text-based hyperlinks. However, Video Player also may display its advertisements in other forms, including graphical elements, such as banners. In some cases, links from Video Player may be portrayed as relevant to the content you currently are viewing. Contrasting those claims, malware experts found any rate of a meaningful corroboration between Video Player advertisements' content and legitimate website content to be extremely minor.

Playing Video Player advertisements Out the Door

Without any reason to categorize Video Player advertisements as a threat, malware researchers merely must label Video Player as a PUP. The removal of most Potentially Unwanted Programs usually, if not always, is a net benefit to any PC. Temporary and protected exposure to Video Player shouldn't provide any damage to your PC in the long term. However, extensive or unprotected contact with content promoted by Video Player advertisements and other adware, may expose you to other threats, scams and security risks that are well beyond the scope of this article. Standard examples of the latter include disguised, corrupted scripts, phishing hoaxes and download links for multiple types of threatening software.

Restricted sample availability has prevented malware experts from confirming all of Video Player advertisements' installation methods, but the majority of adware bundle themselves with other applications. If you see a need to watch movie files through a third party application, you should be careful to trust download sources that have proven themselves reputable. Without question, any attributes worth looking for include a lack of the ties to Video Player advertisements and similar, profit-driven PUPs that don't have the safety of their users at heart.
