Wbxd Ransomware

Posted: January 18, 2021

File-encryption Trojans are a threatening malware type, which may cause potentially irreversible damage to your files. One of the latest file-lockers to be identified by cybersecurity experts is the Wbxd Ransomware, and it seems to share many features with the infamous STOP Ransomware. The latter file-locker family has been very active in the past two years, and, unfortunately, it seems that 2021 might not be any different. The STOP Ransomware is not decryptable for free, and its variants also are not compatible with free decryption tools.

If you fall victim to the Wbxd Ransomware, you will see the extension '.wbxd' added to the names of many of your files. However, the name change is not the only difference – the Wbxd Ransomware also has encrypted these files' contents, rendering them useless. The criminals behind the Wbxd Ransomware claim to offer a paid decryption service, but they ask for a ransom payment of $490 in exchange for their help.

Wbxd Ransomware's creators' full message is stored in the document '_readme.txt,' which the Wbxd Ransomware will drop on all infected computers. The criminals threaten to double the ransom amount if the victim does not pay within 72 hours. They also ask the victim to message them at helpmanager@mail.ch or helpmanager@airmail.cc for additional help and information.

Paying the ransom fee that Wbxd Ransomware's authors demand is a terrible idea that you should not consider. Instead, use an anti-virus tool to eliminate the file-locker and then try out other data recovery options.
