Troj/AdClick-FR Trojan Horse Sells Sex and Destruction

Posted: July 27, 2009

Troj/AdClick-FR is known to be a Trojan horse that promotes an explicit media file that is actually designed to cause destruction.

Yet another addition to the recent influx of dangerous malware, Troj/AdClick-FR is a trojan virus that manifests itself on your computer in the form of a rather innocent-looking file called EroticPamela.mpg. There should be no surprise as to who this file might be referring to.

In order to set your mind at ease, this file attempts to mimic a Windows media file, complete with a description stating as much, and a Windows Media icon. However, when it comes to malware, one should never take something at face value. In truth, EroticPamela.mpg is actually an executable file.

Should the unfortunate happen and you accidentally open this file, the first thing you will most likely notice is that your anti-virus and various other security related applications have either stopped running or terminated completely. Troj/AdClick-FR may then proceed in attempting to halt processes such as Sygate Firewall, Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect Service and ESET Smart Security.

This malicious Trojan doesn't stop there, however. Once Windows firewalls have been disabled, Troj/AdClick-FR modified the registry entries in order to begin running each and every time Windows starts up. It may also alter your Windows Explorer settings. If this wasn't bad enough, Troj/AdClick-FR reconfigures your System Properties in a fashion that leaves no doubt you have just been infected by a dangerous trojan.

Remember, no matter how enticing it may look, be cautious about opening any files of unknown origin.
