ScreenshotTotal Security (Total Security 2009), a clone of Total Virus Protection and Security Shield 2012, is a rogue anti-spyware program that displays notifications of imaginary security risks in an attempts to get you to purchase the full version. Once you click on the fake message it will take you to the Total Security's site where you will be prompted to purchase its full version. In reality, Total Security program is not going to clean your computer from spyware but might actually expose you to more security threats.

Total Security (Total Security 2009) may be difficult to remove manually, and will continue to try to recreate itself without your knowledge or consent.

  • Julien76400 says:

There have been multiple cases of Total Security 2009 blocking any attempt to exterminate it. The rogue can disable Task Manager, prevent .exe files from opening and running (so you can’t use antivirus programs), block Safe Mode. Therefore, we’d like to provide a fairly simple way to bypass some of these trickeries of Total Security 2009.

Step 1. Open My Computer - Go to “C” drive.
    Step 2. Open “Windows” folder
Step 3. In “Windows”, Locate and open up System32 folder
Step 4. Find a file named “taskmgr” - RENAME it “iexplore”
Step 5. Double-click the renamed file - it will bring up the Task Manager.
Step 6. Among Task Manager processes, locate Total Security 2009 process - it’s usually a numbered executable like 65489463.exe. CLICK on that process and close it. It will disable Total Security 2009 for a while
Step 7. While Total Security 2009 is temporarily down, install our automatic remover (push one of the links in the post above). Let the removal tool detect and remove Total Security 2009 pest.

    It should work!

  • Fred Miller says:

This virus, infected on 23.08.09, immediately killed any *.exe file I tried to run. I tried antimalwarebytes from a USB drive but was told that I could not access that drive. Task manager had been "disabled by the administrator". I was unable to go to a previous restore point (XP SP3). The virus had walked straight through CA Vet Anti-Virus and PC Tools Spyware Doctor. All I could do was to format C: and reinstall XP. I kept the minimum on C: to avoid data loss but it appears that M$ has a policy that requires programmers to store data on C: so I lost a lot.

Have tried all this, downloaded the SpyHunter software to a different computer but when trying to open on the infected computer, was not able to. The TS has literally taken over the computer. Tried in the safe mode as well but was not able to get to the internet. The spyhunter is telling me it can\'t access the internet, install manually. That option is not a choice.

I appreciate the work and research that went into this possible fix, and I thank you who have published it for my benefit. Seeing no comments posted, I have to buck-up and make an attempt at purging total security from my computer-box without encouragement from others who succeeded before me. I bought my computer-box for fifty dollars at a garage sale,so I am reluctant to spend more money to keep it tuned up. I am relatively inexperienced and uneducated with the intricacies of programs and such, but have had success with other more minor glitches. My next posting will be a report of my experience in attempting to innitiate purge. Wish me luck!
